Weekend Events
This was a great weekend for me.
On Saturday, I was taken by 5 classmates of mine to learn the basics of waterpolo. This event took place at a nearby boys school, where one of my friends had been a student years ago. It was quite an adventure, mostly in that there was a lot of time when I really just wanted to rest by standing on the bottom, which of course was not an option. Everything in Cape Town is just so picturesque, and the setting for this pool was no exception. Right beside the mountain, we had this 20 x 25 meter pool to ourselves for frolicking and throwing a yellow ball at one another.
In the evening, I was invited over for a lovely dinner at the Spidey's in Hout Bay. Here I enjoyed another braai, this time lean pork that was bbq'ed and then smothering in a heavenly mushroom cream sauce. There are a lot of meals with mushrooms here, and for that I am always happy :) The Spidey's were very gracious hosts allowing me to spend the night, and then delivering me to the beach the next day! I hope to see them again soon, as because of their many adventures, they are going to be great resources in helping me plan my excursions around Southern Africa.
On Sunday morning, I went to Llanduno beach. This is such a gorgeous place, and for some reason there was barely anyone there. The water is a very brisk 7degrees, but this did not deter local surfers and the lifesaving club who was out practicing for upcoming provincial championships. There was a mile of white sand beach for a good game of frisbee and of course, much people watching.
The fun never seems to end and in the evening I went to Kirstenbosch Gardens with a classmate and his parents for an outdoor concert of classical music. For under $10, you gain admission into this huge botanical park right on the side of table mountain and find a great picnic spot on a large green field where an amphitheatre is set up for the summer concert series. We had a large picnic basket, complete with mussels, crackers, cheeses, veggies and of course wine, and sat there as the sun slipped behind the mountains listening to the Cape Philharmonic. It was gorgeous.
Here is a shot of Kirstenbosch:
Afterwards, we drove out to Kalk Bay to meet another classmate and his "mates" at the Brass Bell pub out in Kalk Bay. Here we watching the sun go down and the moon come up. A great end to a great weekend. More photos that I took soon.

PS. Next weekend is The Met, which is this all day party revolving around horse races. Therefore, this week I must find a fun dress to match my large floppy hat! Here is the site if you're interested.

Hey anna! Sounds like an awesome time. I've heard of these day long parties at the races where everyone dresses up and wears hats. Take lots of pictures! Loved the email. Miss you.

Hey, I love the pictures - it's about time. I still can't see one of your pictures, but that's ok.
I hope you enjoy the hat party. I'm sure you have an awesome hat lined up.
Speaking of hats, my favourite hat is one that my friend Colin's dad had - a unipork genetics hat. It had a pig on the front, very strange.
