Hawaii Photos
Hello everyone,
After what seemed like a never ending voyage with three flights (Kona-LAX-Seattle-Vancouver) and then the two ferries, we finally arrived home safe and sound last night.
Here are some photos from our Hawaii adventure.
#1. Family Photo
This family photo was taken on our last evening, during our third trip to Kona Brewing Company for pizza. As you can imagine, we are all smiling and laughing as a result of convincing my dad that this was a good idea.
#2. Trigve and a hula girl
Here is the darling Trigve posing as a hula girl outside a coffee shop, Hula Coffee, on the main drag of Kailua-Kona, within 1km of our hotel.
#3. Waipio Valley
This photo of Mom, Dad and Trigve was taken approximately half way up the mile long, 25% grade hike up Waip'io Valley. This was a really great place to visit. The valley used to be home to hundreds of people, but a storm is 1947 virtually emptied the valley of residents. Today, there are about 50 of what are said to be the "weirdest and craziest" modern day hippies, and two sets of wild horses.
#4. Waipio Valley shot #2
Here is my dad and I, 90% of the way up the top of the valley with obvious prespiration. I was trying to take a self photo of the valley and I, and as you can see my Dad managed to slip into the photo just at the right moment.
#5. Green Sand Beach
After being laughed at by a local for heading for this beach way off the beaten track, and then getting on the right track and walking for the longest and windiest 2.5miles ever, we reached this glorious place. Gorgeous green/gold sand, great surf and an awesome place to spend the afternoon. While there are many signs asking to not take any sand, I guarantee that we all brought a lot home...within the lining of our bathing suits.
Happy New Year to everyone, we look forward to hearing about your holiday adventures.

Sounds like a great way to spend time with the family before heading to Capetown. I've seen many different colors of sand before but haven't yet seen a green sand beach. In the photo it looks more like mud are you sure you didn't get the beach mixed up?

That's a funny comment Gail.
It was green, it looks more muddy where the surf crashed on the beach.
It was greenish gold, very worth the visit :)
