Adventure outside of Harrismith

Dear Deon and Stef,

I must tell you of the adventures that Avaleigh and I had while visiting your brother Cass and his lovely wife Pannie at their new farm just outside of Harrismith, closer to Van Reenan.

We arrived in mid-afternoon last Sunday, and sat out on their stoop and enjoyed a glass of cold spring water, good conversation and the view of their polo horses. While Pannie prepared dinner, Cass took us for a walk around the farm and spoke about his plans of building a dozen or so weekend cottages, showed us the location where they'd like to build a polo club and stable for the horses, as well as where they may put in a medical rehabilitation centre for people who need a scenic getaway to aid in their recovery after surgeries or whatever.
We then enjoyed dinner and sat around the really large fire. The kitchen, dining area and living room are all in one room of the house. After a ten step walk outside, you come to the bedroom areas. There is a 5 room building, where the room are all one after the other in a row and each have an individual door out to the front porch. There are 3 bedrooms for the three children, each decorated with their own style, then the master bedroom which is attached to a cozy sitting area with another large fire; it's lovely.
The next morning we woke up early and had some coffee and then bundled up to watch the sunrise. At around 9am, Cass, Avaleigh and I began a horseback ride around the property. It was quite the adventure as Avaleigh has ridden "more elephants than horses" and my experience is also very limited. This was not an ordinary ride as we went down a 700m mountain (which Avaleigh and I admittedly walked 1/2 down) and then around the campsite, and then back up the mountain, that was just hilarious. It was much easier than walking, but after climbing the summit the horses began to gallop which sent Avaleigh and I into hysterics. While it's been 4 days since then now, we are still feeling the ride.
And most importantly, before our set off Cass made Avaleigh and I "eggs special"...apparently a favourite of your from your student days in Stellenbosch.
Anyway, we are having a great adventure and now down in Durban before hitting the coast and heading west for Cape Town. Thanks again for all your contact numbers in South Africa.

Anna*
